How it started.

In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic became a worldwide health concern. Around the same time, I had quit a great job so that I could travel around the world for a while. Specifically starting off in Italy…which, if you can remember, did not handle the virus well.

So no job, no purpose - I spent several weeks doing absolutely nothing. Life without direction or responsibility wasn’t as great as it sounds. I kept buying things I definitely didn’t need; more clothes, shoes, books that I’m never gonna read, and a home coffee roaster that came with 5 free pounds of green coffee.

I burnt the hell out of my first batch of coffee. It tasted like coffee flavored ash and smelled like burning rubber. It was exhilarating. I couldn’t believe that other roasters could make such incredible coffee out of the same basic ingredient in my hands. It was like a challenge, a puzzle to be solved.

I read everything I could get my hands on about roasting coffee, brewing it, tasting it. Although it was wonderful to dive into this new world, I soon realized I was way out of my depth. They kept using words like melon, and strawberry to describe coffee and I found it very difficult not to roll my eyes…There was just too much information, with too many conflicting opinions.

I wanted to create a place where all this information was presented in a way that regular people can understand.

I decided to sketch up a logo that same night, because an idea doesn’t feel real until you can put it on a sticker. The elephant logo was born and I took my first steps toward Sunday Coffee Co.

Join me as I take many more :)
